Container Deposit Scheme (CDS)
The Container Deposit Scheme is a State Government initiative that rewards Victorians with a 10-cent refund for every eligible can, carton and bottle they return - resulting in less waste and better recycling.
Visit the CDS website for more information including refund points and eligible items.
What is eligible for the 10-cent refund?
Most aluminium, glass, plastic and carton drink containers between 150mL and 3 litres are eligible. Lids can be left on. If you're unsure, check for the 10c mark on the container.
Accepted items
- Soft drink bottles and cans
- Mixed spirits bottles and cans
- Non-concentrated fruit or vegetable juice cartons
- Flavoured milk cartons
- Beer bottles and cans
Items not accepted
- Glass wine bottles
- Glass spirit bottles
- Juice bottles 1 litre and over
- Cordial bottles
- Milk (other than flavoured milk) cartons
Find your nearest refund point
If you have large amounts of containers, we recommend going to a depot or transfer station.
Public bin baskets
Kingston is installing new wire baskets on public litter bins to make it easier for the community to leave or collect eligible 10c drink containers. We will continue to install more in the future.
These baskets are designed for eligible bottles and cans marked with the 10c refund symbol.
Anyone is welcome to drop off their empty eligible containers, or collect containers from the basket and take them to a refund point for the 10c return.
