Batteries (household)

Household batteries are hazardous and must not be placed in any household bin. They can cause fires and leak toxic chemicals.

Many supermarkets and stores have collection points with special bins for disposing of batteries.

There are also more collection points listed on B-Cycle.

Plasterboard

Plasterboard and other renovation materials should be taken to a transfer station and cannot be placed in your bins for kerbside collection.

Cooking oil and containers

Drop off cooking oil for free at a Detox Your Home collection point or take to:

Cooking oil container

Place empty cooking oil containers in your recycling bin (yellow lid).

Glassware (glass cups, tumblers and wine glasses)

Drop glassware in good condition at your local Op Shop.

Broken glassware can be placed in a disposable bag (for safety) and put in your landfill bin (red lid).

Glassware is heat treated and cannot be recycled like disposable glass jars and bottles.

Plastic strapping

Put plastic strapping in your landfill bin (red lid).

Strapping often gets tangled in machinery at recycling centres. This includes pallet strapping, nylon strapping, polypropylene strapping, and any heavy duty package strapping. To avoid this, please put all strapping in the landfill bin.

Carpet/carpet underlay

Dispose of carpet and carpet underlay through our hard waste collection service.

Please note: Only 1 roll, no longer then 1.5m, will be accepted.

Branches

Place in your food and garden waste bin (green lid).

Or book a free tree pruning collection.

Make sure branches placed in bin are no longer than 30cm.

Cans (steel, aluminium)

Place empty cans in your recycling bin (yellow lid).
