Yammerbook Nature Reserve is the last remnant of the Carrum Carrum Swamp, which before European settlement, used to cover 10,000 hectares stretching from Port Phillip Bay to Westernport. The land was traditional home to the Bunurong people, and takes its name from their last surviving tribe member.
The reserve forms part of a trail connecting the Edithvale Wetlands, and Mordialloc Creek and is part of the larger Aspendale Nature Reserve.
There is remnant coastal, scrub and wetland vegetation, and the land has been cared for by volunteers to now provide a habitat for numerous birds, reptiles and small mammals, with boardwalks, walking trails, picnic table, shelter and an off lead dog area along the trail.
