Council is implementing a program of major works to improve the local drainage network and minimise the impact of severe weather events.

This project will reduce regular flooding that occurs along Embankment Grove and the surrounding streets in the northern part of Chelsea and includes:

  • Completed - purchasing a vacant block of land at 149 Thames Promenade to enable drainage improvements.
  • Stage 1 (completed) - The construction of stormwater pumping station, with a bored pipe connecting to the Mulkarra Drive intersection.
  • Stage 2 - The construction of large pipes & road improvement works along Mulkarra Drive and Embankment Grove (up to Baxter Avenue). Works scheduled for 2025-26.
  • Stage 3 - Further plans to prioritise drainage improvements along other streets in this area, including pipes along sections of Embankment Grove and Cross Road.
