Edithvale shopping strip revitalisation project
- Project typeMajor project
- Project value$3.3 million
- Project schedule2025–26
In 2022, we committed $2.3 million in LXRP funding to upgrade the Edithvale shopping strip, which spans across 11 blocks (from 280 Nepean Highway in the south to the intersection at Nepean Highway and Natal Avenue in the north). And Council will support this with an additional $1 million to undertake flood mitigation works.
The aim is to create a welcoming and cohesive precinct, which creates a positive shopping and visitor experience and helps to boost the local economy.
To ensure we get this right, we have been undertaking investigations into:
- streetscape design i.e new seating, street furniture
- stormwater drainage
- greening/landscaping
- project planning and delivery
- project timing and challenges
- wayfinding signage
- connectivity with other projects
- creating a sense of place, and
- accessibility and gender diversity.
We ran two community engagements in 2023 to find out what traders/stakeholders and the local community want us to deliver for them to revitalise Edithvale. We consulted again in mid-2024 (via 3 popup consultation sessions) on our advanced designs, allowing the community to vote on their favourite seat colour palette and provide any additional feedback on the project. The clear winner from the community was the 'Nature' colour palette.
The work is currently in the detailed design phase and is being budgeted for delivery in 2025–26, with works anticipated to commence in mid 2025. Various measures will be considered, such as staging the works, to minimise the disruption to the businesses and community as much as possible during the construction phase.
