Across November and December, there are several events and services in Kingston celebrating International Day of People with a Disability, which is on December 3 every year.

Most events are free.

Free Swim or SWEAT Aqua class

Kingston residents with disability (and their Carer) are invited to use the pool for free during the Access Kingston Week! Just mention Access Kingston to the friendly staff member at the front counter.

Want to try a SWEAT Aqua class?

 SWEAT Aqua sessions are run by qualified instructors and are designed for individuals with acquired brain injuries, Motor Neurone Diseases, or similar conditions. Carers encouraged if necessary. Sessions help build confidence, strength, mobility and co-ordination in a safe and social environment.

Auslan and Sensitive Storytimes

Learn Auslan

Learn the basics of Auslan (Australian Sign Language). This workshop will start with an introduction to Auslan theory and history before covering sign language basics. You’ll learn how to sign the alphabet, general greetings, food, weather and more.

SaintsPlay

SaintsPlay is an inclusive, fun, footy program for children with developmental challenges that enhances social connectivity & confidence in participants.

Beach Access

Every weekend from November to April (weather permitting), there will be accessible beach matting and beach wheelchairs available for use at various Life Saving Clubs on the Kingston Foreshore. Please visit the club's website for more details.

Park run and Accessible Walk

Parkrun is a free, community event where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate on a 5km course.

It is positive, welcoming and inclusive event where there is no time limit, and no one finishes last. Everyone is welcome to come along.

Accessibility for as many people as possible is a priority at Parkrun, and wheelchair users are welcome, whether by themselves, with a support person or using a motorised chair.

Karkarook Park has also been audited by Victoria Walks staff in partnership with Disability Sport and Recreation, Regional Sport Victoria and with Scope Australia.

Come and Try Day - Starfish Nippers

Starfish Nippers is a modified Nippers program for all abilities that runs alongside a club's Age Group Nippers program. It focuses on water and beach safety through adapted activities like beach games, swimming, board skills, and surf safety. Open to participants aged 5 and up, the program supports children and young adults with various medical, intellectual, and learning challenges, such as autism, ADHD, and Down syndrome. Each Starfish Nipper is paired with a mentor to tailor the experience to their individual needs.

Discover Sailing

Participating at a Discover Sailing Day is a fantastic way to have a great day out with your partner, friends, work colleagues or family at the Mordialloc Sailing Club, and even enjoy a short sail.

All boats and safety equipment are provided by the Club.

You’ll have the option to go out for a short sail with an experienced sailor, have a look around the club facilities, and find out about the programs and courses available. There is something for the whole family and even kids as young as five years old can sail when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The Discover Sailing Day is free to attend and all boats and safety equipment is provided by the Club.
All you need to bring is clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting wet, sun screen, and a hat. Shoes with non-marking soles are preferred.

Mordialloc Sailing Club (MSC) welcomes people with disability to join the Discover Sailing Day. However, please note that the volunteers are unable to provide personal support, such as lifting participants into boats. If you require physical assistance, the Club asks that you kindly ask that you bring a carer along. Please ensure that both you and your carer register for the event.

If you're unsure about the assistance you might need or what support the volunteers can provide (eg: MSC has a simple beach/sand compatible wheelchair) , please don't hesitate to contact the club for more information.
