Before the sun sets...

The fun begins before dark! Join the Kingston Arts Hidden Creature Workshops at 1:00pm or 2:45pm to create cute, animated creatures that everyone will be on the hunt for throughout the event! 

Let the hunt for hidden creatures begin! 

Download the Hidden Creature App app and visit the info tent to pick up your free map to follow the trail find hidden creatures, get stamps and collect a lucky dip prize.

Moorabbin Junction After Dark is a winter street party located on Station Street, Moorabbin. The event is based around neon light artworks, winter warming food offerings and live music on Saturday 10 August from 5pm - 9pm. 

You’re encouraged to bring your family, invite your friends, rug up, grab some dinner and enjoy everything on offer while supporting local. Businesses along Station Street will be offering special late-night store activities, food specials and live music.

What activities will be there?

Welcome to Country and Yidiki performance
At 5pm, we will begin the night with an official Welcome to Country, Smoking ceremony and Yidiki (didgeridoo) performance

Interactive neon art installations
Neon light artist artist, Carla O’Brien, from Volter International will transform the precinct into an interactive neon wonderland. 

UV body art, crafts and fairy floss
Stop and get your face painted with UV face paint that glows in the dark, and then get your special glow in the dark fairy floss. 

Silent disco
Get your groove on and dance the night away at the silent disco by Party Higher.

Gourmet food and drinks at local traders
Many of the local traders will stay open late and have special offerings. Read more about which trader are participating.

Bloom
Visit the corner of Tuck Street and Central Avenue to experience the wonder of the interactive installation 'Bloom' by Indirect Object.

Live music and roving entertainment
Our Kingston Youth Services will provide live entertainment and acoustic sets throughout the precinct. 

Football family fun 
Participate in football activities and games presented by the St Kilda Football Club.

Glow in the dark photo booth
Take a photo in the blow-up, glow in the dark photo booth. The lights change colour, and you can take as many pictures as you like!

Giant snow globe
See what it feels like to be inside a snow globe! Up to 6 people can fit inside. 

Walk the path through to the Kingston Arts Centre
Explore the magic as you make your way to the Kingston Arts Centre with featured displays illuminating the garden path. 

Check out the Neon Winter tree
Moorabbin's iconic 'Sugar Gum' will come to life as it will be adorned with lights. 

Visit the Flamingo Garden at the Kingston Arts Centre
Flamingos and palm tree neon installations will light up the courtyard at our Arts Centre. Sip on a winter warming drink from the coffee cart and visit the gallery which is offering extended visiting hours on the night.

Hunt for hidden creatures 
You can join the hunt for hidden creatures that were made at the workshops, before dark, but you can hunt for them all night long.

Do I need to book or register?

We strongly encourage  pre-booking for dine-in eating options at the local restaurants and cafes to avoid disappointment on the night. Other than that, there are no bookings required. Just come along, enjoy the fun and support local.

Is there a cost to see the neon light artworks?

No, interactive and immersive access to the neon light works is free of charge and will run from 5pm to 9pm.

All workshops on Station Street and also hosted by the Kingston Arts Centre are free, however, we recommend booking for those at the Kingston Arts Centre to avoid disappointment.

Where is Moorabbin Junction After Dark happening?

The neon light works by Volter International will be located around the Station Street precinct in Moorabbin.

How can I get to Moorabbin Junction After Dark and is parking available?

Due to limited onsite parking and to avoid traffic congestion, we encourage you to catch public transport where possible.  

Moorabbin Station is located on Station Street, making it very easy to get to Moorabbin Junction After Dark via the train or bus.

Traffic changes
Station Street will be closed to southbound traffic from 8am on Saturday 10 August and reopen at midnight. During this time 40km speed limit will apply to traffic travelling northbound on Station Street.

Central Avenue will be closed between South Road and Tuck Street at the same time.

 

What happens if it rains?

Moorabbin Junction After Dark is an all-weather event as Station Street is largely sheltered by the shop’s protective eaves.

If there is extreme weather forecast in the days leading up to the event, messaging will be shared online to alert patrons that elements may be postponed or cancelled.

Will there be food available?

Yes! There are several fabulous eateries to choose from station street and surrounds. Many businesses also have special offers for the event. So, book a table in advance and dine in with family, and friends in between checking out the neon artworks. Otherwise, grab takeaway and you can eat on the go while you wander Station Street.

Are there public toilets nearby?

There are accessible public toilets located at Moorabbin Station, located on Station Street, along with temporary toilets onsite.
